This week we spent 5 days camping in the gorgeous Inyo National Forest. We camped in the Rock Creek Lake campground and it was so amazing.
We always rent a trailer, which is something we have come to love. It is perfect for people like us who normally only camp one to two times a year. We pack all your stuff ( that is probably the hardest part) in our truck and the trailer is dropped off at the campsite.
This trip we were dry camping. The trailer had solar and we brought our generator as a backup. As a kid I grew up sleeping in tents with no air matresses so I am sure I told my kids about 5 times how nice they have it being in a trailer. We left the devices at home and brought the board games . It was the perfect reset my family was craving. I highly recommend .
We did drive into town a few times and I did post on Instagram while I had cell service.. so there's that.
The whole Mammoth area is one of our favorite places to go. We went snowboarding over thanksgiving last year and it DUMPED on us. It was so exciting to see snow on the mountains STILL 8 months later!
Day 1 hike:
These flowers reminded me of a sunflower mixed with a succulent , so gorgeous.
This was a great hike. My kids were so excited to stop and play in the patches of snow. It was a big hike for my 9 year old. We just took our time and she was able to hike the 4 miles in the elevation.
Day 3 :
We went to Rock Creek Lake and rented a boat and kayaks! Our friends brought their fishing stuff and let me kids give it a try. I highly recommend getting on the lake if you can! There is a walking path along the entire lake we did as well. So many people with dogs as well, great path!!
I love this age with my kids. I felt as though this week we were able to freeze time and just enjoy each other, our friends and nature.
I saw this quote and put it on my instagram
Allow natures peace flow into you as sunshine flows into trees -John Muir
Day 4:
Hiking to Little Lake Valley to Gem Lakes. All trails explains it as
a day hike from the Mosquito Flat trailhead through the Little lakes valley to Morgan Pass.
This hike was my favorite . Some of the trail was covered in snow and our shoes became wet, but it was worth it. The lakes are so gorgeous and the snow capped mountains in the background were amazing. It was a bit cooler this day, we should have dressed a lit bit warmer and I should have brought my fancy camera .. but live and learn.
This day happen to be the first day of Summer and National day of Yoga. I was asking everyone to stop and do yoga .. but I didn't have any takers.
Our friends hiked in with their fishing poles and my kids got to try it again. So amazing.
Back at home , I have a Berkey Water Filter and I love it. Just had to give a shout out to this water bottle I bought last year. It has a filter in the bottle attached to the straw. I filled it up from the lake and drank it! If you are looking for a good water bottle that filters , I HIGHLY recommend this one!! I have taken this to hotels with me when I want to have good drinking water. Saves on plastic bottles!
Oh Mammoth , Rock Creek, I love you!!
